Salva is scared because he doesn't want to die his friend died because of the lions that stalk where they sleep. Salva overcomes his fear by believing in his uncle because his uncle stayed up overnight and promised him he would shoot the lion if he saw one. I have never been scared like that so I haven't overcome any fear yet.
Of all of the elements Salva has faced I think that the desert is the worst. I think it's the worst because it would be burning hot and it would hurt your feet and who knows what would be under the sand.
Uncle kept telling Salva to walk to the rocks or the bushes and just little things he could find just to keep him going because each time he said if you walk to where we can stop. If uncle wasn't there Salva would have lagged behind and possibly would have been left behind or worst died.
Salva has to keep walking with a sore foot and without much water in a desert and not much rest, they find people that need help but they don't have much to give and the men quite possibly will die anyway.
